IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i beach volleyball players
Kaylee Glagau and
Brooke Van Sickle gained their first Big West Pairs Team of the Week award of 2022 after a stellar showing in the Cactus Classic this past weekend in Tucson, Ariz. It's the first career honor for Glagau and the second career weekly nod for Van Sickle.
Paired together for the first time, the senior Van Sickle (Battle Ground, Wash.) and sophomore Glagau (Mississauga, Canada) picked up a four wins at the top flight for the Rainbow Wahine, who went undefeated on the weekend after wins over Boise State, Colorado Mesa, Arizona State and host and No. 13 Arizona.
The duo dropped just one set all week and won three of four matches by straight sets. In their three sweeps, they were dominant, winning each set by an average of seven points. They also captured the clinching point in UH's win over Arizona with a three-set win over Alex Parkhurst and Alana Rennie in the final match of the weekend.
The ninth-ranked BeachBows will next play their second home tournament of the season when they host the Outrigger Queen's Cup, March 10-12, at Queen's Beach. UH will take on Nebraska, UC Davis and nationally-ranked squads California and TCU over the course of the three-day tournament.
