LONG BEACH, CALIF.— The University of Hawai'i baseball team dropped the first game of the conference schedule with a 4-0 loss on the road to Long Beach State Friday evening at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
The Rainbow Warriors (6-11, 0-1) dropped their first conference opener since 2015 with a loss but will look to bounce with the remaining two games of the series. The Dirtbags (9-7, 1-0) won their fourth consecutive game, exceeding their season's longest win streak.
Graduate starting pitcher
Andy Archer came out of the gate hot, throwing three scoreless innings, before giving up a run in the fourth, consistently working out of pressure situations. The fifth is when the Dirtbags struck for three runs, all against Archer as he was relieved by sophomore
Connor Harrison, followed by junior
Cameron Hagan to get out of the inning.
Archer finished with fourth innings pitched, allowing four runs, three earned, while striking out two. He was also saddled with the loss, his third of the season.
The 'Bows lineup struggled throughout, accumulating two hits on the night as senior left field
Scotty Scott and junior first baseman
Jacob Igawa recorded a hit. UH went 0-for-10 with runners on as a team and a combined 2-for-30 in the game.
UH, and LBSU will follow up with game two Saturday afternoon; the first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. HT.
