Men's Tennis Takes Win Streak to San Diego

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (7-1. 0-0 Big West) takes its seven-match win streak back on the road to San Diego for a pair of matches. The Rainbow Warriors will take on San Diego State (4-7, 1-0 Mountain West) at the Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Courts on Saturday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. HT. UH will then open its Big West Conference season at UC San Diego (3-9, 1-0 Big West) on Monday, March 21.

The reigning Big West Player of the Week, 17th-ranked Andre Ilagan earned his fifth career conference weekly honor after helping lead the Rainbow Warriors to win the Golden State Tennis Invitational last week in Sacramento, Calif. UH recorded three wins en route to capturing the tourney title. The 'Bows opened with a 4-2 win over Pacific, followed by a 4-2 win over host-school Sacramento State which spanned two days due to darkness. Hawai'i won the championship with a 4-1 win over St. Mary's- CA. 

For Ilagan, it was his first Big West weekly award of the year. He has won his last five completed matches in a row--including 11-straight sets. In doubles, with partner Karl Collins, the UH No. 1 duo is 3-0 together with two unfinished matches. 

Hawai'i's Guillaume Tattevin, a sophomore transfer from Lander University, is undefeated in dual matches thus far with a 6-0 record. He is 2-0 at No. 4, 3-0 on the No. 5, and 1-0 playing at No. 6. Senior Blaz Seric is close behind with a 4-1 record all playing on the No. 2 court.

San Diego State's Joe Tyler leads the Aztecs with a 12-6 overall record and a 6-2 combined record playing at No. 1 and No. 2. Two other players have over 10 wins thus far--Judson Blair is 11-12 and Alexander Mandma is 10-10.

UC San Diego has won three of its last five matches--including a conference win over UC Riverside. The Tritons are led by Sahm Irvine who comes into this week with a 6-2 overall record. He has played at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
