HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (6-9, 0-0 Big West) split their final two games of the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic on Saturday afternoon. Hawai'i fell to No. 1 Oklahoma, 9-0 in five innings to start the day, but bounced back to snap its four-game losing streak by defeat California, 6-1 in the tourney finale at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Oklahoma scored three runs in the second and six in the fourth for a 9-0, five inning win.
The Sooners' Lynnsie Elam launched a solo home run to center and later Nugent followed with a two-run homer for a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Oklahoma then erupted for six runs in the fourth to take control of the game. A pair of RBI-singles, a three-run home run by Grace Lyons and a solo shot by Taylon Snow would be all the scoring the OU would need for their 16th mercy rule win of the season.
The Sooners' pitchers fired a combined no-hitter. Starting pitcher Nicole May earned the win to improve to 7-0. She had a walk and three strikeouts in three innings of work. Jordy Bahl tossed the final two innings giving up a walk with and four strikeouts.
Hawai'i's
Chloe Borges allowed nine runs on 10 hits in the complete game loss. She had five walks and two strikeouts.
Hawai'i 6, California 1
The Rainbow Wahine played their best game of the tournament defeating California. 6-1 to end the four-day tournament.
Brittnee Rossi, who shifted up in the lineup back to her usual lead-off spot had herself a game. On offense, she led Hawai'i going 2-for-2 with a home run and a double, three runs scored and two RBI. While on defense, she made a few plays, including a sliding shoestring catch right on the giant "H" logo in centerfield to end the fourth inning. She and
Nawai Kaupe led Hawai'i also going 2-for-2 at the plated with two RBI, a run scored and two walks.
Hawai'i's starting pitcher
Brianna Lopez and the UH defense played well the entire game as the held the Golden Bears off the bases. Lopez, who evened her record to 3-3, fired a complete-game gem, allowing one run while spacing five hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Cal's Acacia Anders started the game with a one-out, solo home run in the top of the first for the quick 1-0 lead.
Hawai'i's tied the game right back as Rossi led off the home half of the first inning with with her first home run of the season. The ball landed on the centerfield camera platform to tie the game at 1-1.
The Rainbow Wahine added a run in the third on a double steal. With runners at the corners,
Izabella Martinez drew the throw to second, but on the play, the second baseman and shortstop collided trying to cut the ball to throw home which allowed Rossi to steal home to give UH a 2-1 lead.
With one out in the fifth, Hawai'i extended its lead to 5-1. Rossi drew a walk and
Nawai Kaupe followed by launching a two-run blast to center. It marked Kaupe's fourth home run of the season. Later, Borges (the designated player) hit a soft grounder to the 5-6 hole. It ricocheted off the third baseman and shortstop and trickled into the outfield as pinch runner
Kaeli Bush to score from third.
Hawai'i added an insurance run in the sixth. Rossi was a couple feet from picking up her second home run of the game. Instead, the ball caromed off the left-center wall for a double. She hustled into third as the centerfielder misfielded the ball. On the play,
Ka'ena Keliinoi, who led the inning off with an opposite field single to right, scored from second.
California's starter, Haylei Archer took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits in 4-1/3 innings pitched. She had three walks and two strikeouts. Annabel Teperson made a brief appearance, facing just one batter, allowing Kaupe's home run. Sona Halajian closed the final 1-2/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
For Hawai'i, it marked their first win over California since a 6-2 win on March 8, 2014. It was also the first win over a PAC-12 team since knocking off Utah, 5-1 also on March 8, 2015, and the first win over a power five conference member since UH defeating Purdue on March 18, 2017.
The Rainbow Wahine will start their Big West Conference season next week as they open at UC Santa Barbara with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 19 and a single game on Sunday, March 20.
