BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team shot a final round 309 to finish with a 924 total and fifth place finish at The Valley Invitational at the Bakersfield Country Club.
The Rainbow Wahine finished third among the six Big West Conference teams competing in the 12-team field behind Cal Poly (907) and CSU Fullerton (917). San Francisco (895) won the team title, edging out Grand Canyon by five strokes.
Cal Poly's Elizabeth Scholtes took medalist honors at 1-over 217.
UH's top finisher was freshman
Mayumi Umezu of Waimea, Hawai'i, who tied for 12
th place after a final round 76 for an 11-over 227 total. The finish was Umezu's highest of her young UH career.

Momo Sugiyama finished one stroke back at 12-over 228 and a tie for 14

The Valley Invitational was UH's spring season opener. The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in The Gold Rush, Feb. 28-March 1 in Seal Beach, Calif.,
