HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team wrapped up its two-day Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational exhibition tournament on Saturday. Hawai'i competed against Hawai'i Pacific on both days at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
On Friday, UH and HPU split the doubles matches. UH's No. 3 duo of Gitte Henemans and Lea Romain defeated HPU's Marta Ruszcznska and Valentina Mokrova, 6-2, while Madison Kim and Anna Kern, Hawai'i' s No. 4, cruised past the Sharks' Olivia Kjaer and Rikona Murakami, 6-1. Hawai'i's top two pairs were both edged out by a break. UH's No. 1 Satsuki Takamura and Nidhi Surapeneni fell to Marleen Tilgner and Shaline Pipa, 7-5. On the No. 2 court, HPU's Mihoki Miyahara and Elodie Busson held off Ana Vilcek and Tal Talya Zandber, 7-5.
 
In singles, UH won five of the six matches all in straight sets. At No. 1, Takamura knocked off Busson, 6-4, 6-2. UH's Vilcek, playing at No. 3, notched a 6-4, 6-3 win over HPU's Tilgner. Hawai'i's No. 4 Zandberg bested Ruszczyncka, 6-4, 6-3. UH's Heynemans routed Kjaer, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and Hawai'i's Surapaneni blanked HPU's Murakami, 6-0, 6-0.
 
The two teams started Day two once again splitting the doubles portion of the match, with HPU taking the No. 1 & No. 2 matches, while UH won at No. 3 and No. 4. Playing for UH at No. 3 on Saturday were partners Kim and Kern who edged out Ruszczynska and Mokrova, 7-5. UH's Vilcek and Zandberg overpowered HPU's Kjaer and Murakami, 6-1. Playing at No. 2, Hawai'i's duo of Takamura and Surapaneni fell in a tiebreaker to Miyahara and Busson, 7-6 (2).
 
On Saturday, the Rainbow Wahine captured four of six completed matches. UH's No. 5 Romain started things off by coasting by Kjaer, 6-2, 6-1, while UH's Kim overwhelmed Murakami on the No. 6 court, 6-0, 6-1. Hawai'i's No. 2 Takamura kept things rolling with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Pipa. After UH's No. 1 Zandberg fell to HPU's Busson, 6-1, 6-4, Hawai'i's No. 5 Surapaneni recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ruszczynska, 6-4, 6-3. The final match of the exhibition tournament came down to a third set tie-breaker in which the Sharks' Tilgner thwarted UH's Heynemans' comeback bid, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (2).
 
The Rainbow Wahine have nine days off before they embark on their first roadtrip of 2022. The 'Bows will battle three teams in San Diego in four days. UH will take on San Diego to start the trip on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 11:15 a.m. HT. Hawai'i will then open their Big West Conference season at UC San Diego on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 12:00 p.m. HT and then conclude their SoCal trek at San Diego State on Friday, Feb. 18 at 12:00 p.m. HT.
