HONOLULU – The No. 3 University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team completed another sweep of No. 15 Lincoln Memorial Saturday in the second match of a three-match series at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-11, 25-16, 25-17.
The Rainbow Warriors (12-2) extended their win streak to eight matches and made it six straight sweeps of LMU in the series. UH hit .377 with 10 team blocks and limited the Railsplitters (8-2) to -.028 hitting.
Outside hitter
Chaz Galloway made his return to the line-up after missing the last nine matches due to injury. The San Diego, Calif., native finished with seven kills, three digs, and two blocks.
Opposite
Dimitrios Mouchlias had a match-high 14 kills, hitting .435 for the Warriors while outside hitter
Spyros Chakas added six kills, three aces, six digs, and three blocks. Middle blocker
Guilherme Voss had a team-high six blocks.
Johansen Negron had seven kills to lead LMU.
In Set 1, the Warriors scored six of the first seven points and ran out to a 15-5 lead at the media timeout. Back-to-back aces by Chakas made it 21-9. Mouchlias finished 8-for-8 in kills in the set and UH hit .556.
Hawai'i scored five straight points off Thelle's serve, including back-to-back Voss-Mouchlias blocks that gave UH a 12-7 lead in Set 2. Moments later, Mouchlias' serving turn resulted in a 4-0 run for an 18-11 lead. The Warriors finished with four blocks and held LMU to -.217 hitting in the set.
UH used a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead. The Splitters rallied to within one at 12-11. But the Warriors scored four of the next five points for a four-point cushion and then out-scored the Splitters 7-2 to close out the match.
The teams will conclude their series Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
