Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i tennis team (1-2, 1-0 BWC) dominated their penultimate match of their three-game road trip in Southern California. The Rainbow Wahine bested UC San Diego (2-6, 1-2 BWC), 6-1 to open their 2022 Big West season at the Northview Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
 
The Tritons clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. UH's Gitte Heynemans and Léa Romain of Hawaii fell to Sophie Pearson and Ella Pachl on court No. 1, 6-3. Satsuki Takamura and Nidhi Surapaneni defeated UCSD's Anu Bhadada/Rachel Wagner 7-5 to tie things at 1-1. Unfortunately, Hawai'i's Ana Vilcek and Tal Talya Zandberg were edged out by Naomi Nguyen and Katelyn Vu in the deciding match that ended in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-5).
 
Hawai'i did not give up a set as the 'Bows swept the singles competition. UH's No. 3 Vilcek was the first to finish, firing a shutout over Nguyen 6-0, 6-0. Next to finish was Heynemans who notched a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rachel Wagner at No. 5. Romain, who played on the No. 2 court, had a closer match, but still managed to cruise past Pearson 6-0, 6-3. UH's No. 6 Madison Kim overwhelmed Bhadada 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match. Takamura kept the Rainbow Wahine rolling with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ella Pachl. Zandberg finished the last match of the day by defeating Katelyn Vu 6-2, 6-3.
 
The Rainbow Wahine finish their road trip on Friday against San Diego State at 12:00 PM at the Aztec Tennis Center.
