HONOLULU-The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game with a 76-66 loss to UNLV Sunday afternoon at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine (1-7) came up just in their second consecutive meeting to UNLV, after losing last season in Las Vegas. After suffering their first loss of the season against Pacific a week ago, the Runnin Rebels (9-1) have answered with back-to-back wins.
UNLV led for virtually the entire game and built its lead to as many as 15 points in the second half. The Rainbow Wahine didn't fold and rallied to tie the game in the fourth quarter. However, the Lady Rebels never let the UH get ahead in picking up the road win.
From the tip, UH and UNLV played at a frantic pace as UNLV shot 48 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes as the Runnin' Rebels took a 41-30 lead at the break. UNLV extended its lead to 45-30 in the fourth quarter and took a 57-50 lead in the final frame.
UH went on a 9-2 run to start the fourth quarter and knotted things up, 59-59, with just under seven minutes left on the clock. The Runnin' Rebels however responded with eight straight points to turn back any hopes of a UH comeback.
For the first time since the season opener at Oregon State on November 7th, sophomore guard
Olivia Davies returned to action and produced in a big way. Davies recorded team-highs in points (14) and assists (3), while also adding five rebounds.
Lily Wahinekapu also finished in double-digits, pouring in 12 points.
The 'Bows will take an extended break spanning 10 days for end-of-the-semester finals before their next game on December 21st on the road at San Jose State.
