HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team competed in Part 2 of the UH-HPU Invitational on Friday, Nov. 4 at the UH Tennis Complex. Hawai'i won six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.
Hawai'i's Andy Hernandez won both of his matches, defeating HPU's Mile Matic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 and later downed the Sharks' Riku Ogasawara, 6-2, 6-4. UH's Karl Collins notched two singles wins as well for the 'Bows, knocking off Tanguy Calicis with a second set tiebreaker win, 6-4, 7-6 (2). Collins then recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over HPU's Matic. Cody Castro held off HPU's Jack Wang, 6-4, 7-6 (2) and Guillaume Tattevin won in a third-set super-tiebreaker over Jakub Beran, 6-1, 6-7 (3), 1-0(6).
In doubles, the Hawai'i duo of Collins and Tattevin breezed past HPU's Beran and Matic, 6-1 while Cole Kurata and Castro combined to edge Sohta Urano and Ryohei Arai by a break, 6-4.
Hawai'i and Hawai'i Pacific will conclude UH-HPU Invitational on Saturday morning (Nov. 5) at 9:00 a.m. HT.
