Rainbow Wahine Wrap Up Fall at Pac-12 Preview

KAILUA KONA, Hawai'i - The University of Hawai'i women's golf team completed the Nanea Pac-12 Preview with a program-best 54-over par at the Nanea Golf Club on Wednesday.

The Rainbow Wahine shot 24 over in their final round of play to finish with a total stroke count of 930 and placed 12th as a team. UH's previous best at the Pac-12 Preview was 59-over par in 2013.

Sophomore Hyeonji Kang led the 'Bows with three birdies in the final round of competition, finishing 4-over par, shooting 223, and tied for 21st place. The native of South Korea was the only UH golfer to post a round under par in the competition, shooting 3-under par in round one. Sophomore Mayumi Umezu also performed notably, finishing in 36th place with six birdies in the tournament and shooting 227.

Also competing for UH were Wendy Song (83=239, 55th), Focus Jonglikit (80=241, T-56th), and Monica Johnson (86=254, 59th).

No. 1 Stanford took home the title shooting 18-under par, beating Oregon by 10 strokes. Stanford's Rose Zhang secured the medalist honors with an 11-under par.

The tournament closed out the fall season for the 'Bows. UH will return to action on February 27 in Sacramento, Calif. for the Gunrock Invitational hosted by UC Davis.
