SEATTLE, Wash.—On a cold morning in the northwest of the continental U.S., the 2022 cross country season ended for the University of Hawai'i with the NCAA Division I West Regional at Chambers Creek Regional Park hosted by the University of Washington.
The Rainbow Wahine placed 30th overall out of 38 teams, their best showing since the 2019 West Regional when they also finished 30th. UH finished with a team time of 1:52:07 and tallied 899 points.
"Proud of the efforts of this team all year, including today," said head coach
Tim Boyce. "The West region is stacked. We ran quite well for the 40-degree conditions".
Senior Caelan Miller saved her best performance for last as she recorded a personal best time of 20:52.2, placing her at 96th overall and outperforming her time from The Big West Championships by eight seconds. Miller is only the second Rainbow Wahine ever to register a time under 21 minutes in the 6k, the other being in 2016 when Camille Campos ran a 20:03.4 in the Bronco Invitational. It also marks the best time of any 'Bow running a 6k in the NCAA West Regional, our performing Montana Martinez, also from 2016.
Senior Sophia Morgan placed 172nd with a time of 21:50.7 in her final collegiate meet, improving on her time from 2021 by over a minute. Rounding out the top three for UH was freshman Keilah Wilkes, who crossed the line at 21:56.1 for the 181st position.
