Hawai‘i To Close Out 2022 Season at the NCAA West Regionals

SEATTLE, Wash.—The 2022 cross country season will come to an on Friday for the University of Hawai'i with the NCAA Division I West Regional, hosted by the University of Washington at Chambers Creek Regional Park.

The Rainbow Wahine return to Seattle, Washington, for the NCAA West region for the first time since 2017. The 'Bows have consistently competed in the regionals over the last six seasons, following a stretch from 2011 to 2013 where they didn't have a team competing or, in 2014, only four individuals competed in the meet. A year ago, UH placed 34th overall, with senior Olivia Hill leading the way with a time of 22:45.8 in the 6k, placing at 164th overall.

Under the guidance of head coach Tim Boyce, 2022 has been a steady pace of consistent improvement. Senior Caelin Miller has led the 'Bows in four of their five meets this season, including The Big West Championships two weeks ago. She narrowly missed a top-25 finish with a time of 21:00.7, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since Camille Campos and Montana Martinez in 2016. Compared to last year's results, if Miller can match or improve her time from the conference championships, she can break into the top 50, another accomplishment pulled off by Campos in 2016, finishing at 36th overall.

The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. PT (8 a.m. HT). Unlike prior conditions of pleasant weather in 2022, UH will have an unfamiliar foe in the northwest, as expected temperatures will hover around the 40-degree mark during the meet.
