HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – University of Hawai'i sophomore Mazumi Umezu carded an even par 72 on the first day of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate Friday at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club.
The Waimea, Hawai'i native posted three birdies and three bogeys on her round and currently sits in a tie for 19th place. New Mexico's Napat Lertsadwattana tied the tournament-record with a 7-under 65 to lead the 90-golfer field.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine are tied for 11
th place at 11-over 299. Vanderbilt holds the Day 1 lead at 280.
Making her season debut is junior
Kralyn Salazar, who carded a career-low round of 3-over 75 and is tied for 39
th place along with teammate
Hyeonji Kang. Also competing for Hawai'i are
Wendy Song (77, t-60
th) and
Monica Johnson (83, 89
th).
The tournament continues with Round 2 on Saturday.
