KAPOLEI, O'ahu – University of Hawai'i sophomore
Hyeonji Kang fired a 3-under 69 on the first day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Monday at the Kapolei Golf Club.
The South Korea native posted three birdies and did not have a blemish on her scorecard. Kang is tied for third place, two strokes behind leaders Cassie Kim and Grace Lee of Gonzaga.
Colorado State and Gonzaga share the first round lead at 6-under 282, followed by UH (292), Fresno State (298), and Sacramento State and College of Charleston (299).

Mayumi Umezu carded an even par 72 and is tied for 10
th place. Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are sophomore

Wendy Song (77, t-34

th).

th) and
Ting-Yu Liu (86, t-75
th) and are competing as individuals.
The tournament continues with Round 2 on Tuesday with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
