MALIBU, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team competed on Day 2 of the ITA Southwest Regional in Malibu, Calif.. The Hawai'i doubles duo of Andy Hernandez and Kilian Maitre recorded a big Main Draw win over a seeded pair from UCLA,  while in singles 24^th-ranked and fourth-seeded Andre Ilagan knocked off 24^th-seed Glanluca Brunkow to stay alive to advance to Saturday's Round of 16 in the Main Draw.
 
In the Doubles' Main Draw Round of 32, UH's Hernandez and Maitre took down UCLA's Aadarsh Tripathi and Timothy Li, 8-5. The win propelled the 'Bows into the Round of 16, to face second-ranked and top-seeded Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye of Southern Calif.. Hernandez and Maitre fought but fell, 8-3 to one of the best doubles pairing in the nation.
 
In singles, Ilagan faced UCSB's Brunkow in Friday's Main Draw Round of 32. Ilagan took the first set by a break but fell in the second set. In the third, Ilagan bounced back to edge out Brunkow in a tie-breaker for the win, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (2). The victory launches Ilagan into the Regional Round of 16 on Saturday.
 
Also in the Singles Main Draw Round of 32, Hawai'i's 31-seed Axel Labrunie faced off with No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Dostanic. Labrunie fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
 
UH's Guillaume Tattevin recorded a win in the Consolation Round, defeating San Diego State's Lennart Melzer in two, 7-5, 6-2. Karl Collins recorded a win as Grand Canyon's Stainslaus De Samucewicz  retired in the third set with Collins leading in the super tie-breaker 4-2. Collins final score was 6-2, 3-6, ret. at 4-2 in tie-breaker.
