HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team opened its home Fall schedule with the first day of the UH-HPU Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Rainbow Warriors took on members of the Hawai'i Pacific team at the UH Tennis Complex. Several of the Round 2 matches went unfinished due to inclement weather and will be completed on Saturday morning.
 
In singles, UH's Guillaume Tattevin and Kilian Maitre both won their two singles matches each. Tattevin bounced back after dropping the second set to defeat HPU's Jakob Beran in a super-tiebreaker, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (7). Later, Tattevin downed the Sharks' Mile Matic, 6-1, 6-1. Hawai'i's Maitre knocked off HPU's Matic by a break in both sets, 6-4, 7-5. In his second match of the day, Maitre came back after dropping the first set to hold off Riku Ogasawara in a super tie-breaker, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6).
 
Three Hawai'I players were able to complete only their Round 1 match on Friday before the rain came. Andy Hernandez edged out HPU's Ogasawara, 7-5, 7-5. UH's Karl Collins defeated HPU's Jack Wang in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 and Hawai'i's Cody Castro held off HPU's Sohta Urano, 6-3, 6-3.
 
In doubles, the Rainbow Warriors' duo of Maitre and Hernandez overwhelmed HPU's Beran and Matic, 6-2 while UH's Tattevin and Collins blanked the Sharks' Jack Wang and Ogasawara, 6-0. Cole Kurata made his Rainbow Warrior debut playing with doubles partner Castro. The duo fell to HPU's Urano and Arai by a break, 6-4.
 
­Day Two of the UH-HPU Invitational will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the UH Tennis Complex. The matches that were unfinished on Friday will be completed on Saturday morning.
