Men's Tennis Heads to Las Vegas for Four Dual Matches

LAS VEGAS, NEV.--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team heads to Las Vegas, Nev. to play their first four dual matches of the season. The matches will be held at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex from Friday, Jan. 28 - Saturday, Jan. 30, 2022.

The Rainbow Warriors open their first roadtrip of the year on Friday with a doubleheader. UH will first take on host school, UNLV, in the Rebels' first match of 2022. The 'Bows will follow that with an afternoon match against Big West rival, UC Riverside in a non-conference match. On Saturday, the 'Bows will battle Weber State and then conclude their weekend on Sunday, Jan. 30 against former Western Athletic Conference (WAC) foe, New Mexico State.

Hawai'i junior Simão Telo Alves looks to remain red-hot, after winning all three of his matches in the Warriors' season opening Hawai'i Invitational tournament earlier this month. For his efforts, Alves earned his first career Big West Player of the Week award (Jan. 19). Alves is the just the 10th Rainbow Warrior to earn the BWC weekly honor, which brings the program total to 17 in 10 seasons.

UH's 11th-ranked Andre Ilagan looks to lead the 'Bows in his season debut after a historic fall season which catapulted him up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings. Previously, the highest ranking ever received by a UH player was Andreas Weber when he came in at No. 25 in the 2008 ITA pre-season poll, while Dennis Lajola started the 2009 season ranked No. 56 in the January 6th poll.
