Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rainbow Warriors Rout UC San Diego, 79-56

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team continued to roll with a commanding 79-56 win over UC San Diego Saturday night at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. UH improved to 7-5 overall with its third straight victory.

Two days after a resounding win over rival UC Irvine, the Rainbow Warriors didn't let up in its first-ever meeting versus the Tritons. UH raced out to a 23-point halftime lead, shot 56 percent from the field and absolutely dominated the glass to cruise to the victory. With USCD's still transitioning to the Division I level, the game did not count towards the Big West standings.

Jerome Desrosiers led the way with a career-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. It was the senior's third straight double-double, a streak last accomplished in 2014 by Christian Standhardinger. Junior Madut added 15 points and Bernardo da Silva chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

A depleted UCSD squad (8-8) held a 9-8 lead eight minutes into the game. But kickstarted by back-to-back three pointers by Desrosiers and Zoar Nedd, UH scored 13 unanswered points and never looked back. The 'Bows shot 58 percent in the decisive first half while holding UCSD to just 31 percent. UH took a 41-18 lead into the locker room for its biggest halftime advantage of the season.

The 'Bows didn't let up in the second half, growing its lead to as many as 28 points as the Tritons, who got a game-high 20 points from Toni Rocack, would get no closer than halftime margin. UH wiped the boards, finishing the game with a 41-21 advantage in rebounds. UH's outside shooting also stayed true to form as the 'Bows drained nine for the game. The Rainbow Warriors won running away despite attempting just one free throw – which was missed—all game.

The 'Bows will now head to the road for a pair of BIg West games, starting with a matchup with CSU Bakersfield.  Tipoff is 7:00 p.m.  PT/5:00 p.m. HT.
