Weinman - Day 2

Women's Tennis Hosts UH Spring Invitational Exhibition

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team has adjusted its schedule due to COVID-19. Kansas State was unable to make the trip out to Honolulu due to COVID-19, therefore Thursday's Jan. 13th dual match against the Wildcats was canceled. Some of the Rainbow Wahine have recently entered Covid protocol and UH was forced to cancel this weekend's dual match vs. Washington on Saturday, Jan. 15th. Hawai'i and Washington have decided to instead extend the UH Spring Invitational to a three-day exhibition, from Thursday, Jan. 13-Saturday, Jan. 15. Also due to COVID-19, fans are not allowed to attend any matches at the UH Tennis Complex this week.

The Rainbow Wahine are coming off a busy week full of action in the Weinman Foundation Invitational against members of No. 7 California and Washington State. Making their official Hawai'i debuts at the UH Tennis Complex were Tal Gitte Heynemans, Nidhi Surapaneni, Ana Vilcek, Avery Williams and Talya Zandberg.

Satsuki Takamura, Léa Romain, Heynemans and Surapaneni all were able to notch wins during this past week's tournament. Takamura opened with a three-set victory over Washington State's Savanna Ly-Nguyen, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Romain held off WSU's Fifa Kumhom in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Heynemans knocked off Cal's Cami Brown in two, 6-3, 6-4, while Surapaneni bounced back after dropping her first set to defeat WSU's Stephaniea Mikhailova in three culminating with a 10-8 tie-breaker win to seal the victory, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8).
