IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i women's volleyball players
Brooke Van Sickle and
Kate Lang both earned their first Big West Player of the Week honors after leading the Rainbow Wahine to a pair of road sweeps over UC Riverside and UC Davis last week. Van Sickle was voted as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week after the senior outside hitter tallied a lofty .468 hitting percentage over the weekend with 23 kills and just one error in 47 swings. Lang earned BWC Freshman of the Week honors after helping lead UH to a combined .359 hitting percentage over the weekend in her first two collegiate starts.
Against UCD, Van Sickle notched her 11
th career and fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 11 digs—both match-highs. It was the eighth time this season that she led UH in kills for the match and third time in digs. She tallied a career-high .609 hitting percentage with no errors in 23 attacks. Van Sickle also contributed with four blocks, an assist and a service ace to fill out her stat line. Against UCR, she contributed with nine kills while hitting .333 to go with seven digs and three blocks.
In Lang's first collegiate start, she narrowly missed on a double-double as she dealt 36 assists with a career-high nine digs. At the controls, Lang orchestrated an efficient offense with 43 UH kills and a .320 hitting percentage. Lang was also in on a career-high four blocks with a service ace. She followed that performance by dishing out a career-high 38 assists at UC Davis while leading a balanced offensive attack. The team combined for a season-high .396 hitting percentage with all five starting hitters logging at least six kills apiece. Lang also had two kills, eight digs, and three blocks in the win.
It is the first time this season that Hawai'i players have earned a Big West weekly honor. The last Rainbow Wahine to earn Offensive Player of the Week was
