SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—University of Hawai'i men's tennis player Axel Labrunie opened the 2021 fall season competing in the Battle in the Bay Classic hosted by the California Tennis Club in San Francisco, Calif.
 
Labrunie fell in the opening qualifying singles draw to Stefano Tsorotiotis of UC Santa Barbara. Labruinie fought hard, but fell by just one break in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
 
On Thursday, Andre Ilagan will begin play in the main singles draw. Ilagan will take on Southern California's Bradley Frye at 9:30 a.m. HT in a Round of 32 match.
 
On Thursday, Ilagan and Labrunie will also combine forces to start play in the doubles qualifying round. The Rainbow Warriors will battle USC's Paul Barretto and Samuel Rubell at 7:00 a.m. HT.
 
Labrunie will also continue play with a match to be announced.
