'AIEA, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team gifted new head coach 
Scott Simpson a team title in his coaching debut with a one-stroke win at the HPU Sharks Shootout following Monday's final round at the Pearl Country Club.
 
The Rainbow Warriors edged out UH Hilo and host HPU for the team title of the 36-hole event with a 599 total after a second round 297. The Vulcans finished one stroke back at 600 while the first round leader Sharks were two strokes back at 601. Hilo's Keith Ing took medalist honors at 3-under 141 with a final round 4-under 68.
 
Junior 
Matt Lloyd was UH's top finisher at 4-over 148 and fourth place after a second round 72. Freshman 
Isaiah Kanno tied for seventh place at 152 while junior 
AJ Teraoka and senior 
Kanata Irei each tied for 10
th at 153. GCU transfer 
Pierce Braun rebounded from an opening round 81 with a second round 73 for a 154 total and a tie for 14
th place.
 
UH's "B" team, which finished Sunday's round tied atop the leaderboard, was disqualified Monday morning due to an invalid scorecard. 
Ratio Visuttipinate led the team with a 153 total and tie for 10
th place. Freshman 
Garrett Takeuchi tied for 14
th at 154 and freshman 
Jake Sequin placed 19
th at 158.
 
The Warriors will next compete at the Nick Watney Invitational Sept. 27-28 in Fresno, Calif.
