Throughout the course of fall camp, HawaiiAthletics.com will provide a breakdown of the 2021 Rainbow Wahine volleyball team, position-by-position, as the team prepares for its season opener at Fairfield on Friday, Aug. 27. 

Both setters are gone from the 2019 team that made it to the NCAA Regional round. Norene Iosia and Bailey Choy accounted for 1,166 of the teams 1,361 assists on the season, or 85.7 percent, but don't worry, two setters have been on campus for a full year training for this season. Freshman Kate Lang and Mylana Byrd a junior transfer from Alabama are both vying for the starting spot in 2021.

Kate Lang – FR – 5-10 – Keller, Texas
Enrolled at Hawaii in the fall of 2020 as a true freshman before the 2020 season was cancelled by the Big West. As a prep star, Lang helped lead her Texas Advantage Volleyball (TAV) Club to two national titles. She was twice named to the National Tournament all-tournament team and was named Setter of the Year in 2017 and '18. At Keller HS, Lang earned first team all-district, first team academic all-district 2016-18 and was named Most Valuable Player in 2018. Lang was ranked No. 59 on the Senior Aces list for prep volleyball seniors.
 
Mylana Byrd – JR – 6-2 – Houston, Texas
Enrolled at Hawaii in the fall of 2020 prior to the cancellation of the Rainbow Wahine's 2020 season. In her two seasons at Alabama, Byrd played in 158 total sets while amassing 844 assists, 81 digs, 80 total blocks (15-solo/65-block assist), and 71 kills. As a freshman, she played in all 32 matches for the Crimson Tide. As a sophomore, she posted a career-high 38 assists in a four-set win over NC State.
