RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Hawai'i baseball team couldn't muster a hit until the eighth inning on Sunday against UC Riverside, and didn't score a run until the ninth inning, as the Rainbow Warriors dropped the series finale 9-2.
The Highlanders' starting pitcher Kyle Anderson threw 6.0 innings of no-hit work, and allowed just three base runners via two walks and a hit by pitch.
Riverside scored in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Hawai'i scored two in the ninth inning on a pinch-hit triple from freshman
Safea Villaruz-Mauai and a ground out from first baseman

Hawai'i's starter, sophomore
Li'i Pontes lasted 3.1 innings, giving up four runs on 10 hits. UC Riverside sprayed 19 hits, but never walked. It is the second game this season that Hawai'i has not given up a walk but have still lost.
All three of Hawai'i's hits came off the bats of freshman pinch hitters –
Konnor Palmeira,
Stone Miyao and Villaruz-Mauai.
Hawai'i returns home to play Big West newcomer CSU Bakersfield at Les Murakami Stadium April 16-18.
