DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team finished the 2021 regular season on a high note with a win over UC Davis, 4-3, early Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. 
 
Simao Telo Alves clinched the match for Hawai'i on the No. 6 singles court after UH dropped the doubles contest early on in the dual. Hawai'i completed the regular season with a 4-3 overall mark and 3-3 in Big West play.
 
In doubles, the clinching match came down to the No. 2 court, where UH's Blaz Seric and Axel Labrunie narrowly dropped a 6-4 decision to Andrei Volgin and Mitchell Davis. Doubles play began with a Hawai'i victory on the No. 1 court as duo Andre Ilagan and Lucas Labrunie defeated Ivan Thamma and David Goulak, 6-2. On the opposite end, Telo Alves and Tristan Martins fell by a two-point margin to UCD's Dariush Jalali and Chethan Swanson, 6-4. 
 
However, the Warriors were determined to win the dual in singles competition as they secured wins on the first four finished courts. Ilagan finished first on the No. 1 court, defeating Thamma in two sets, 7-5, 6-2. Axel Labrunie followed, outmaneuvering Andras Necz through three sets,  6-1, 3-6, 6-2, finishing second. Similarly, Martins also found success on the No. 5 court, coming back to win against Swanson after falling in the first set, then seizing the last two, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
 
With a 3-1 lead in the dual, Hawai'i needed just one win on the three remaining courts. That came on the No. 6 court, where Telo Alves beat UCD's Arjith Jayaraman in two sets, 7-6(3), 6-4, clinching the match for Hawai'i. 
 
The Warriors will now prepare for the Big West Tournament which will run Friday, April 30 to Sunday, May 2 in Irvine, Calif.
