GREENSBORO, N. C. – The women's NCAA swim and dive championships began on Wednesday. Still, it wasn't till Thursday where the University of Hawai'i made its first appearance with sophomore Daphe Wils competing in the one-meter event at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
 
The Herman Gorterlaan, Netherland native, scored a 255.10 in the prelims, putting her at No. 33 of 49 divers competing on the national stage. Wils' highest score of the day came on her second dive with a forward 2 ½ somersault pike, where she tallied a 48.10 on the dive, placing her at 14th overall at the end of the second round. As competition continued, Wils stayed consistent, scoring a 46.80 off a reverse 1 ½ somersault pike on her fourth dive, but her efforts didn't add up to a top qualifying position.
 
Sarah Bacon of Minnesota took home the championships in the 1-meter with a final championship score of 357.20. Bacon, a prolific diver, won the event for the third consecutive time, claiming the championship in 2018 and 2019.
 
Wils will be back in action tomorrow as she'll compete in the 3-meter. An event she won at the MPSF Championships and the Zone E Championships.
