IRVINE, Calif. –
Justin Webster has been named the Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week after a torrid shooting performance in a pair of Rainbow Warrior wins. It is the first career weekly honor for the sophomore and the first for a UH player this season.
The 6-3 guard from Dallas, Texas, averaged 19.0 points in a weekend sweep of Cal Poly. He did it with phenomenal precision, missing just two shots all weekend. Webster went a combined 13-of-15 from the floor, including 8-of-9 on three-pointers. He also sank all four of is free throw attempts.
In UH's 84-68 win over the Mustangs, Webster went 6-of-7 from the floor, 4-of-5 from three and 4-of-4 from the line en route to a game-high 20 points. It marked his third 20-point performance this year. During an 81-64 win the next evening he was even more efficient, going 7-of-8 from the field, while drilling all four of his three-point attempts.
Webster currently leads the team in scoring (13.8 ppg), three-pointers (25), steals (16) and minutes (30.7 mpg). He is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the arc on the season.
Webster and the Rainbow Warriors have a big week ahead as they host conference co-leader UC Santa Barbara this weekend at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Friday's game is at 7:00 p.m., while Saturday's match-up will tip at 5:00 p.m.
