IRVINE, Calif.—University of Hawai'i middle blocker Amber Igiede was voted Big West Defensive Player of the Week after two dominant defensive performances on the road this past week. This is Igiede's first Defensive Player of the Week award of her career. She earned a BWC Freshman of the Week two years ago on Nov. 25, 2019.
 
On defense In the two matches combined this past week, Igiede, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, La., amassed 12 blocks and 14 digs. On offense she hit .482 with 16 kills while adding three assists.
 
At Cal State Fullerton, Igiede was in on a match-high six blocks, which included three block solos, tying her career-high in solos. She also popped up eight digs—one shy of her career high. Igiede notched five kills and two assists.
 
At Long Beach State, Igiede was one of three Rainbow Wahine to post a match-high six blocks while registering six digs. She hit for a career-high .786 at the Walter Pyramid committing no errors with 11 kills on 14 swings.
 
Igiede currently leads UH with 95.0 total blocks, 1.23 blocks per set, and a .366 hitting percentage. She has recorded at least one block in 48 consecutive matches, dating back to her fourth game as a freshman against Army West Point on Sept. 5, 2019. She has had at least one block in 51-of-52 total career matches played.
