Atwell Named Big West Conference Player of the Week

HONOLULU: As announced by the conference office Monday morning, the University of Hawai'i's Amy Atwell of women's basketball earned her first Big West Conference Player of the Week honor after a pair of dominant performances over the weekend. Marking the Rainbow Wahine's first weekly honor since Jay Tago claimed the accolade in February of 2020.

Although this is Atwell's first weekly honor, she was previously named to the Preseason All-Big West Team for 2022, the All Second-Team in 2021, and the Sixth Player of the Year honor in 2020.

Against Portland and Portland State, the senior forward combined for a team-best 59 points. Behind the arc, it was business as usual as she led the team with eight three-pointers for the weekend.

Against PU, she notched a career-high 30 points while shooting 54% from the field and 50% from three.

Atwell produced another stellar performance against PSU, where the South Perth, Australia native, flirted with history again. She ended the game one point shy of her career-high with 29, and it was only the second time in her career where she had back-to-back games with 20 or more points.

Atwell and the 'Bows will be back on Friday for the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, facing Eastern Illinois, Utah, and Gonzaga throughout the weekend.
