KOHALA COAST, Hawai'i—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team wrapped up action in the Hawai'i/Stanford Invitational on Sunday. The Cardinal were dominant, winning all but one doubles match at the Hawai'i Tennis Center at the Fairmont, Orchid.
The Rainbow Wahine duo of Lea Romain and Gitte Heynemena recorded UH's lone win on the day, holding off Stanford's 'Ana Geller and Alexandra Yepifanova by a break, 6-4. The Hawai'i pair of
Jessalyn Lopez and
Anna Kern battled, but fell by a break to Sara Choy and India Houghton. UH's
Satsuki Takamura and
Nidhi Surapaneni fell to the Cardinal's Angelica Blake and Connie Ma, 6-3, while the 'Bows'
Madison Kim and
Tal Talya Zandberg lost to Niluka Madurawe and Valenicia Xu by the identical score, 6-3.
In singles, UH's Heynemans was close to going undefeated on the weekend, but she fell in a third set super tiebreaker to Ana Geller, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4. Hawai'i's Kim fought hard, but dropped her match against Stanford's Houghton, 6-3, 6-4.
The Hawai'i/Stanford Invitational was the final action for UH this Fall. UH will open its regular season in January 2022.
