HONOLULU- The Big West Conference announced its annual preseason honors Tuesday morning, positioning the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team in the middle of the pack, along with one individual honor.
Senior forward
Amy Atwell was selected to both the media and coaches' preseason teams and was the only Rainbow Wahine to receive votes in both polls. Atwell returns as the elder statesman for the 'Bows, as she has played in 96 games over her career, and returns as the leading scorer from last season's team, averaging 12 points per game. She started in all 17 games a year ago and scored double-digits in nine of those contests.
As a team, the 'Bows are where they've traditionally been the last few seasons, right in the middle of the standings. The media poll has UH set at the No. 4 position, while the coaches' poll has them at No. 5. Each poll has UC Davis placed at No. 1 with Long Beach State at No. 2 overall.
UH, will tip off the 2021-2022 campaign on Wednesday with an exhibition against Hawai'i Pacific at 7 p.m. HT inside SimpliFi Arena at the Stan Sheriff Center.
