IRVINE, Calif.—A week after earning her first Big West Defensive Player of the Week award, University of Hawai'i's Amber Igiede garnered her first ever BWC Offensive Player of the Week honor after a pair of dominant performances this past weekend.
 
In Hawai'i's two matches, the sophomore middle blocker hit a combined team-high 30 kills and a team-best .592 hitting percentage with just one hitting error in 49 attacks. At the net, she led UH with a total of 15 blocks for the weekend.
 
Against UC Irvine, she pounded a career-high and match-high 17 kills with no errors on 27 attacks for a .630 hitting percentage. She also recorded a match-high five blocks (one solo).
 
Igiede powered the 'Bows past UC San Diego. The Baton Rouge, La., native flirted with a triple-double, tying her career-high with 10 total blocks to go along with 13 kills on .545 hitting and six digs.   It was her first double-double of the season and first since her freshman against Cal State Fullerton on 10/5/2019.
 
Igiede has now recorded at least one block in 50 consecutive matches dating back to her freshman season in 2019. Currently she is ranked No. 2 in the Big West and No. 21 in the NCAA with 1.33 blocks per set. On offense, she ranks No. 5 in the BWC with a .388 hitting percentage and No. 10 with 2.84 kills per set.
 
Igiede is the first middle blocker to be named Big West Offensive Player of the Week since 2017. Since re-joining the Big West Conference, only three other UH middle blockers have earned BWC Player of the Week honors--Emily Maglio (Nov. 6, 2017), Annie Mitchem (who played both MB/OH) (Nov. 7, 2016), and Olivia Magill (Sept. 8, 2014).
