Momo Sugiyama and
Monica Johnson each shot even par 72 on the first day of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate Friday at the Highlands Ranch Golf Course.
The Rainbow Wahine sit in 12
th place at 6-over 294 in the 15-team field, however they are nine strokes out of second place. ETSU holds a commanding lead at 17-under 271, 14 strokes over Denver (285).
Sugiyama, the reining Big West Golfer of the Month, and Johnson, both from Australia are tied for 19
th place and seven strokes off the individual lead held by ETSU's Hollie Muse. South Korean freshman
Hyeonji Kang carded 1-over 73 and is tied for 34
th.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are junior
Hana Mirnik (75, t-66
th) and freshman
Focus Jonglikit (81, 80
th).
Round 2 begins on Saturday with UH starting on No. 10 and teamed with Rutgers and Wyoming.
