TULSA, Okla.—University of Hawai'i men's tennis player
Andre Ilagan became the first Rainbow Warrior in history to win a match in the ITA All-American Championships' Main Draw. Ilagan swept Georgia Tech's Marcus McDaniel in straight sets to advance to the Round of 32. Ilagan dominated McDaniel, defeating the Yellow Jacket, 6-3, 6-0.
Ilagan is just the fourth Rainbow Warrior to ever compete in the Main Draw of the ITA All-American tournament which started in 2007. Previously, only Dennis Lajola (2010), Andreas Webber (2007) and Sascha Heinemann (2007) were the only Rainbow Warriors to ever play in the main draw. Both Lajola and Weber received automatic entries into the main draw while Heinemann, like Ilagan, won his three qualifying matches to gain entrance into the main draw.
Next up, Ilagan will take on Juan Carlos Aguilar of TCU on Thursday, Oct. 7.
