SAN DIEGO, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team wrapped up action at the ITA Southwest Region Championships on Sunday. After sweeping its opponents in Saturday's consolation matches, the Rainbow Wahine were unable to scratch out a win on their final day in San Diego, Calif.
In singles, members of the Arizona squad overwhelmed the 'Bows. UH's Léa Romain was the only Hawai'i player to extend their match to three sets. Romain took the first set by a break, but ran out of gas against Arizona's Salma Ziouti in the final two sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. Arizona's Kayla Meraz held off UH's
Alexis Merrill by just a break in both sets, 7-5, 7-5.
In doubles, Hawai'i's duo of
Tal Talya Zandberg and
Madison Kim fell to UA's Parker Fry and Khim Iglupas, 6-4, while the Wildcat pair of Midori Castill0-Meza and Ziouti cruised past UH's Gitte Henemans and Romain, 6-2.
The Rainbow Wahine will return to UH Tennis Complex on Nov. 4-5, 11-13 to host the Rainbow Wahine Invite. Start times to be determined.
