HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team concluded day two of the HPU-UH Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 17 at the UH Tennis Complex.
The final day started with singles, where the Rainbow Warriors won five out of seven matches played against the Sharks. UH's Blaz Seric handled HPU's Robin Sanz with ease, winning the game easily, 6-1, 6-2. UH's Axel Labrunie also cruised over HPU's Jordi Walder in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. UH's Kilian Maitre defeated HPU's Jan Pleva after persevering through a tough first set, 7-6 (1), 6-2.
UH's Guillaume Tattevin strolled past HPU's Jan Heine, 6-3, 6-2. UH's Cody Castro was swept by HPU's Jakub Beran, 6-0, 6-0. UH's Simão Telo Alves fell to HPU's Benjamin Loccisano, 6-2, 3-6 (3). Finally, UH's Karl Collins fought hard and held off HPU's Ryohei Arai, in a third set super tiebreaker, 6-1, 5-7 (4).
In doubles, the 'Bows prevailed in two of three matches. Collins/Seric defeated Loccisiano/ Heine, 6-3, on the number one court. In a similar fashion, Tattevin/Maitre defeated Arai/Cheng-Chieh Wang, 6-3, on court three. Finally, Labrunie/Alves fell after a formidable effort against Beran/Sanz that ended in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (6), on court 3.
The Rainbow Warriors will now look to compete in the ITA Regional this Friday, Oct. 22 in Malibu, Calif.
