Men's Tennis Competes In HPU-UH Invite

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team competed on day one of the HPU-UH Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex. The invite is the first home matches of the fall season for the Rainbow Warriors, who previously traveled to California and Oklahoma to compete in the Battle of the Bay, Rancher Invitational, and ITA All-American tournaments.

With a 9:00 a.m. start time, the Warriors began the invite with singles. On court 7, senior Blaz Seric was edged out by HPU's Jordi Walder , 7-6 (4), 6-3. Sophomore Axel Labrunie swept HPU's Jan Pleva in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 on court 8. Freshman Kilian Maitre won against HPU's Robin Sanz after pulling through in the second set, 1-6, 7-5 (10-7). Sophomore Guillaume Tattevin gained the upper hand on HPU's Benjamin Loccisano, defeating him 6-3, 4-6 (10-4) on court 10. Likewise, Simão Telo Alves battle back after dropping the first set to outlasted HPU's Jan Heine 3-6, 6-4 (14-12). On court 12, freshman Karl Collins fell to HPU's Jakub Beran 6-4, 4-6 (10-8) while on court 1, sophomore Cody Castro came up short against HPU's Ryohei Arai, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles, the Rainbow Warriors swept the sharks on all three courts. The duo of Seric and Labrunie defeated Walder and Pleva, 6-3. Tattevin and Maitre, curtailed the efforts of HPU's Beran and Sanz by a break, winning 6-4. Last to finish were Alves and Collins, who in a similar fashion defeated Loccisano and Heine, 6-4.

The Rainbow Warriors continue HPU-UH Invite play tomorrow, Sunday Oct.16th at 9:00 a.m.
