Men's Basketball Heads To Riverside For Big West Opener

The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team heads to the road for the first time this season to open up Big West action at UC Riverside on Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9 at the SRC Arena.

Coaches: Head coach Eran Ganot is in his sixth season at UH (88-56). Mike Magpayo is in his first season at UC Riverside (3-1).

Game Story Lines
  • The Rainbow Warriors and Highlanders will each play their first conference games. Both teams come off extended layoffs. It will be 20 days from UH's last game (Dec. 19) and 29 days for UC Riverside who last played on Dec. 10.
  • UH had its home series against Cal Poly canceled and had a bye this past weekend. UCR had its home series vs Long Beach State and road series versus UC Davis both canceled.
  • UH has won four of its last five in Riverside.
  • UH is 4-4 in Big West openers and 3-5 in its first Big West road game of the year.
  • UH is 21-19 under Eran Ganot in Big West regular-season road games.    
  • The 'Bows own a pair of lopsided wins over Division II Hawai'i Pacific and UH Hilo with an average margin of victory of 28.0 points. 
  • UH has played the least amount of overall games (2) in the Big West. UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and CSU Bakersfield have played the most games (9).
  • After playing at UC Riverside, UH will return home to host CSU Bakersfield in the first-ever Big West meeting between the teams on January 15 & 16.
