Honolulu, HI -- The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (3-5, 1-0 Big West) dominated GCU, 6-1 in their first ever televised match at the UH Tennis Complex.

Within the presence of camera crews, the match began with doubles where GCU took the early 1-0 lead. GCU's No.1 duo Emilia Occhipinti and Celina Buhr defeated UH's Petra Melounova and Nikola Dolokova, 6-3. The Lope's No.3 team Ludovica Infantino and Autum Prudhomme rallied against Lea Romain and Rebecca Ehn secured the point with a 6-4 win. UH's No.2 Madison Kim and Michelle Pits match went unfinished against Natasha Weiss and Jana Weiss at a tie of 4-4.

In singles, the Rainbow Wahine dominated by winning on all six courts with courts No.2 and No.5 going to three sets. No.3 Bojana Markovic's opponent,  Celina Buhr retired after the first set to tie the match at 1-1.  UH's No.1 Melounova finished second by outplaying Occhipinti, 6-2, 6-0. In similar fashion, No.6 Kim defeated Martina Lo Pumo, 6-3, 6-0. No.4 Pits squared off against Weiss, taking their first set up to 7-5 then clinching the match at 6-2. No.2 Takamura and No.5 Dolakova both finished with third set tiebreakers as the match was already in hand. Takamura defeated Puehse 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (2), while Dolakova defeated Infantino, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8).

The Rainbow Wahine will have their second televised match against Long Beach State in their Big West home opener this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
