SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (2-5, 1-0 Big West) fell to No. 22 USC, 4-1 at the Aztec Tennis Courts in San Diego, California.
In doubles, UH battled hard but fell just short as the Women' of Troy earned the point winning on the No. 2 and 3 courts for the 1-0 lead. USC's No. 2 team of Payton Saca and Carson Branstine held off UH's Satsuki Takamura and Bojana Markovic by a break, 6-4. USC's No. 3 duo of Danielle Wilson and Estella Jaeger then defeated UH's Rebecca Ehn and Lea Romain by the same score, 6-4. Hawai'i's No. 1 duo of Petra Melounova and Nikola Dolakova were knotted at 6-6 and about to start the tiebreaker when the point was clinched.
In singles, USC clinched the match winning on courts No. 1, 3 and 6. UH's Dolokova was the lone Rainbow Wahine to notch a win for the 'Bows. She defeated Carson Branst on the No. 5 court, 6-1, 6-4. Both UH's No. 2 Melounova and No. 4 Michelle Pits had tied their matches at a set apiece when the match ended. Melounova had won the first set but fell in the second and was trailing in the third 6-1, 1-6, 3-4, while Pits dropped the first set, before fighting back to take the second set 3-6, 6-4.
The Rainbow Wahine return home to face Grand Canyon on Thursday, February 27th and Big West Conference match Long Beach State on Saturday, February 29th at the UH Tennis Complex.
