IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i middle blocker
Guilherme Voss picked up his third Big West Conference Freshman of the Week award after helping the Rainbow Warriors to a two-match series sweep of Stanford over the weekend.
The freshman from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil also won the award last week after the Rainbow Warriors claimed the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts title and following the team's season-opening sweep of Charleston.
Against the 11
th-ranked Cardinal, Voss averaged 1.67 kills and 1.50 blocks per set and hit .471 for the series. He notched five kills in each match and recorded only just errors in 17 attack attempts. Voss also posted team-highs of four blocks in the opener and five in the rematch while collecting three digs over the two contests.
The Brazilian has started 13 of 14 matches this season and is averaging 1.45 kills and 1.18 blocks per set. He leads all UH starters with a .520 hitting percentage and has helped the team to a No. 2 national ranking in blocks per set (2.89).
The Rainbow Warriors have the week off before returning to the Stan Sheriff Center court with a pair of exhibition matches against Nittaidai of Japan, Wednesday, Feb. 26 and Friday, Feb. 28.
