Box Score SEATTLE – No. 23 Washington got off to a fast start and built an insurmountable lead to hand the University of Hawai'i football team its first loss of the season, 52-20, Saturday at Husky Stadium.
UH entered the game having already beaten a pair of Pac-12 squads at home but ran into an energized Husky squad coming off an upset loss last week. The Huskies went up 14-0 less than four minutes into the game and scored the first 38 points of the game. UW eventually took a 38-7 lead into the locker room, while averaging better than 10 yards per play.
UH showed life, scoring 20 straight points, including a pair of long 14-play touchdown drives in the third quarter. However, the hole proved too big as UW shut the door for good with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns.
UH got a career game from sophomore
Miles Reed who rushed for 70 yards and the first two touchdowns of his career. Senior Cedric Byrd caught six balls for 72 yards and found the end zone for the fifth time this season when he caught a 4-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter.
Cole McDonald finished 22-of-35 for 218 yards and a touchdown, however, the junior also tossed three interceptions. Meanwhile his counterpart, Jacob Eason, threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns with all three scoring tosses coming in the decisive first half.
UW wasted little time in getting on the board. Washington scored on just its third play from scrimmage, a 47-yard scoring strike to Hunter Bryant from Eason. It was a sign of things to come as UW stung UH early with big-chunk plays. The Huskies' first four touchdowns came on plays of 22 yards or longer.
The Warriors now return to the islands for a Homecoming game vs. Central Arkansas next Saturday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.
