Seattle Selects John Ursua in Seventh Round of NFL Draft

NASHVILLE - Former University of Hawaiʻi receiver John Ursua was taken by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft on Saturday. Ursua, who led the nation with 16 receiving touchdowns as a redshirt junior in 2018, was the 236th overall selection in this year's draft.

The Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi native is the second Rainbow Warrior selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, joining Jahlani Tavai - a second round pick by the Detroit Lions. It is the first time Hawaiʻi has had multiple players drafted in the same year since 2011 when Alex Green (3rd round - Green Bay Packers), Greg Salas (4th round - St. Louis Rams) and Kealoha Pilares (5th round - Carolina Panthers) were all picked.

Ursua is the 72nd player in UH history to be selected in the NFL Draft. He is the third Rainbow Warrior taken by the Seahawks joining Wayne Hunter (2003 - 3rd round) and M.L. Johnson (1987 - 9th round).

In his three-year career with the Rainbow Warriors, Ursua accumulated 189 career catches and 24 receiving touchdowns while helping to lead UH to a pair of bowl appearances.
