INDIAN WELLS, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (8-9, 6-2 Big West) enters this week's Big West Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Rainbow Wahine will begin defense of their conference title against No. 5 UC Davis in the quarterfinal round on Friday, April 26 at 5:30 a.m. HT at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
This past Sunday, the Rainbow Wahine swept UC Davis on the road, 7-0.
Leading the way is 60
th-ranked junior
Petra Melounova. Melounova leads the team with a 13-4 overall record and a 13-2 mark in dual matches. She has won 12 of her last 13 matches—including the last four straight. Nine of her win have been two set sweeps. Melounova upset three ranked players this season--#34 Salma Ewing (USC), #30 Julia Rosenqvist (California), and #86 Maddie Pothoff (Santa Clara).
Junior
Michelle Pits recorded a 10-9 overall singles record. She played all her matches on the No. 4 court in dual matches where she tallied a 9-7 record. Senior transfer
Maayan Sela has come through in her only season as a Rainbow Wahine with a 9-14 overall record playing primarily on the No. 2 court.
Currently in doubles, UH's No. 3 duo of
Alzbeta Houbova and Sela leads with a team-best 5-2 record together. Right behind them is the doubles team of
Nikola Dolakova and Melounova who have tallied a 5-4 record on the No. 1 court.
