Rainbow Wahine Sailors Place 5th At PCCSC Championship

LONG BEACH, Calif.  – The University of Hawai'i women's sailing squad finished in fifth place at the PCCSC Women's Championship hosted April 20 by USC. The Rainbow Wahine were just one point short of qualifying for the ICSA Women's Nationals in Newport R.I., with California sailing away with the last qualifying spot.

The Rainbow Wahine totaled 89 points, one point behind Cal who finished with 88. The top four scores were all very close. Stanford captured the regatta with a low of 55 points. UC Santa Barbara and USC tied for second, with 69 points each. Those four squads will represent the PCCSC at next month's nationals on the East Coast.

UH was propelled by Annika Garrett and Megan Lucas who finished third in the A division with 41 points. Hayden Lahr, Shelby Hastings and Paige Sullivan finished sixth in the B division with 68 points. A total of 10 teams competed in 20 races—10 in each division—on Saturday.

Senior Annika Garrett was honored on Saturday night for her stellar performance all year as she earned all-conference skipper honors. Among the others awarded were Sarah Alexander, (USC) Stephanie Houck, (STAN), Madeline Kraus, (UCSB), Kerri Luttrell, (UCSB) and Sophia Sole (STAN).
