SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team fell in its season finale at UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos improved to 14-6 overall and remained unbeaten in the Big West at 5-0. Hawai'i fell to 7-12 overall and 1-4 in conference.
The Gauchos got an early 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point. UCSB's No. 1 duo of Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Anders Holm knocked off UH's
Andre Ilagan and
Lucas Labrunie, 6-3. UCSB then clinched the point with a 6-2 win on the No. 2 court with Joseph Guillin and Victor Krustev defeated
Blaz Seric and Simao Telo Alves.
The Gauchos kept the momentum into the singles matches as they won the first five matches in straight sets. The bright highlight for the Rainbow Warriors was senior
Asad Siyyid who defeated Luka Vukmanovic on the No. 6 court. Siyyid held off Vukmanovic in a third-set, super tiebreaker for UH's only win of the afternoon, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
The Rainbow Warriors will stay on the mainland this week to compete in the Big West Championship tournament in Indian Wells, Calif. The tourney begins on Thursday, April 25 and concludes on Sunday, April 28.
