SandBows Sweep Washington On Senior Night

HONOLULU – The No. 6 University of Hawaii beach volleyball team dominated in its final home match of the season, defeating Washington, 5-0, on Senior Night at the T.C. Ching Complex. The SandBows moved to 24-7 on the season after winning for the 12 the time in the last 13 matches.
 
The SandBows won in straight sets in four of the five flights to defeat the Huskies (8-13) for the second time in three days. Following the match, UH honored its four seniors – Angel Gaskin, Ari Homayun, Hi'ilawe Huddleston and Emily Maglio. Homayun, Huddleston, and Maglio were all victorious in their home finale.
 
Two days after falling to Emma Calle and Samantha Dreschel during the Queen's Cup, Huddleston and Kylin Loker returned the favor with a 21-17, 21-11 at the No. 4 court. Homayun teamed with Julia Scoles to defeat Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson 21-16, 21-11 at the No. 2 flight as the pair improved to a team-best 25-5 on the year. Maglio and Amy Ozee capped the evening with a 21-18, 21-16 sweep of Kristen Gengenbacher and Destiny Julye.
 
The day also saw a bounce-back win for Morgan Martin and Pani Napoleon at the No. 3 flight. The pair had its 20-match win streak snapped on Sunday in a straight-set loss to LMU. The pair rebounded big-time versus Washington with a 21-3, 21-8 drubbing of Cat McCoy and Avie Niece at the No. 3 flight. The duo is now 21-1 on the season with 42 of 44 sets won.  
 
Meanwhile, the No. 5 pair of Paige Dreeuws and Sofia Russo picked up their fifth straight win with a three-set victory over Chloe Newton and Callie Weber. Dreeuws and Russo have won each of their last four matches in three sets.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will host one more event at the T.C. Ching Complex when former SandBow greats return for the Alumnae Salute on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. UH players, past and present, will play with and against each other in afternoon exhibition of fun and comradery.
