HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (4-9, 2-2 Big West) snapped its eighth-match losing streak with a 6-1 Santa Clara. In the win, 100^th-ranked Petra Melounova upset No. 86 Maddie Pothoff in three sets.
 
The Rainbow Wahine captured the doubles point to start the match. Santa Clara's No. 1 Pothoff and Elvena Gevargiz defeating Melounova and Nikola Dolakova. But UH's Michelle Pits and Roxanne Resma then evened things with a 6-3 win over Katya Tabachnik and Caitlyn Frankel on the No. 2 court. Hawai'i's No. 3 Alzbeta Houbova and Maayan Sela secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Jamie Schroer and Nadine Del Carmen.
 
In singles, the Bronco's No. 5 Del Carmen leveled the match at 1-1 with a straight set win over Roxanne Resma, 6-2, 6-2. But from there, UH won the next five matches. No. 4 Pits then defeated Tabachnik, 6-3, 6-2. It marked Pits' third win in the last five matches. Houbova followed with a 6-1, 7-5 win over SCU's Lindssey Pesqueira, 6-2, 7-5 to win her second match of her last three.
 
UH's No. 3, Dolakova then came back and finished strong after dropping the first set to clinch the match in three sets over Gevargiz, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Sela, UH's No. 2 held off Schoroer by a break in each set, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Melounova concluded the match with a hard-fought win that ended in a third set, super tiebreaker over Pothoff, 6-7(0), 7-5, 1-0 (11). It marked Melounova's third win over a higher-ranked opponent this season. She got back on the winning track to improve to 10-2 in dual matches this season.
 
Hawai'i continues their final homestand on Saturday, Martch 30 against Cal Poly at 11:00 a.m. in a Big West contest. The Rainbow Wahine will finish the week with its final non-conference match of the year against San Jose State on Sunday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be held at the UH Tennis Complex.
