The No. 6 University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team continues it long road stretch with the Big West Challenge, March 30-31, at Pismo Beach, Calif. It will be a crucial weekend for the Rainbow Wahine (13-6) who look to build its resume for the postseason with matchups against its Big West competitors, including No. 9 Long Beach State and No. 7 Cal Poly, the tournament host.
Â
The SandBows will also face CSUN, CSU Bakersfield, Sacramento State, and UC Davis in the two-day tournament. UH will play six matches over the weekend in California, this coming on the heels of a five-match road swing in Arizona.
Â
UH went 3-2 in Arizona with wins over No. 16 Grand Canyon and Arizona State (twice) and a pair of losses to No. 2 USC and No. 5 Pepperdine. The loss to Pepperdine snapped UH's season-long seven-match win streak. All six of UH's losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the Top 5.
Â
Seniors
Ari Homayun and
Emily Maglio set their sights on a pair of individual accomplishments this week. Homayun, who hit 100 wins this past weekend in Arizona, is just one win shy of tying and two wins shy of breaking the UH all-time overall wins mark of 103 held by
Ka'iwi Schucht and
Nikki Taylor. Meanwhile, Maglio is just one win away from joining Homayun in the 100-win club. Only four SandBows have reached that milestone. Â
Â
Following the Big West Challenge, the Rainbow Wahine return home to host the Queen's Cup, April 13-14, in Waikiki. Â
